King's Chorders quartet recently did two interesting performances. On June 17, we were part of a Father's Day indoor picnic at Tranquility Assisted Living in Frederick. It involved a baseball theme, so naturally, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" had to be sung. Many family members of Tranquility residents were present, and all (including the quartet) had a good time.
Sunday, June 27, the quartet was part of the retirement celebration for Dr. John Kershner of Kershner-Trepper Dental Associates. Dr. Kershner retired after 40 years of dentistry in the Frederick area. Will he take it easy? Hardly! This week he and his son, John, Jr. are beginning a 2800 mile cycling adenture from Canada to Mexico. It's called the Great Divide Cycle Tour, is basically off-road, criss-crossing the Continental Divide as it winds down through the Rocky Mountains. What a privilege it was to sing for such a dedicated public servant as Dr. Kershner! The program was at Dutch's Daughters restaurant and was for several dozen of the dentist's professional associates, close friends, and family members.

Ring of Gold had the honor of singing for the 9:30 AM service at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Smithsburg on June 27. Catoctone member Doug Logan was lay leader for this service, and his heartfelt introduction of the quartet was sincerely appreciated. Mark Wadhams acted as the quartet MC, providing brief comments to introduce each song. Roger Crist joined the quartet this morning, replacing Don Thompson as baritone – Don had other commitments with the Alexandria Harmonizers and wasn’t available this date. It was indeed a pleasure singing with Roger on this occasion, and yes, we sang a tag before going our separate ways for the day! This was a special treat for Ring of Gold – we had fun and the congregation certainly seemed to enjoy our performance. Thanks, Doug! Tom Landon, Tenor
