“There just isn’t any better sound than when the four notes of a quartet lock together and you get that golden ring that stands the hair on the back of your neck right up.”  -- Don Thompson, baritone.

That’s where “Ring of Gold” gets its name.  This committed group of performers has been together for a few years now, and placed 11th on the contest stage at the 2009 Southern Division competition of the Mid-Atlantic District.  All are serious singers and Barbershoppers, and two hold a position on the Frederick Catoctones chapter Board of Directors.

Don’s been active in the group for over 17 years, Mike Garvey for ten, Mark Wadhams for eleven years, and the newbie is Tom Landon who has been in the chapter for seven years now.

Their favorite gig was the 2007 Singing Valentines event.  If you will recall, there was a serious snowstorm here on Valentine’s Day, but these troopers traveled all over the county delivering their musical messages of love, including a show-stopper of a turn at the local Red Lobster that left the patrons and wait staff in tears with the beauty of that ring of gold!

Alas, girls, they’re all married and busy with home life when they’re not singing.
